Alexandros Demetriou joined Cronje & Yiannas Actuaries and Consultants Ltd in January 2022 as a Senior Consultant to lead the firm’s insurance consulting efforts in the areas of Life Insurance, Non-Life Insurance, and Insurance Risk Management.
Alexandros joined C.Y Actuaries with 11 years of insurance and risk management experience working both as an internal actuary as well as a consultant. He graduated with a BSc in Actuarial Science from Heriot Watt University in Scotland and he is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the United Kingdom, a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary and holds a Certificate in Data Science from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the United Kingdom and the University of Southampton Data Science Academy.
After graduating, Alexandros joined Ethniki Insurance Cyprus as an actuarial assistant. During his time at Ethniki he worked for the company’s Life and Health Department, Actuarial and Risk management department and was subsequently promoted to the position of the company’s Internal Actuary where he assumed key roles in insurance business management and was responsible for the company’s pricing and Life and Non-life IFRS and Solvency reserving.
He then joined KPMG Cyprus in the Advisory department, where he worked for almost 7 years. During those years, he led the actuarial and insurance risk management consulting services of the company, having provided advisory and audit support services to insurance Companies in Cyprus. He also provided services to insurance companies domiciled in other European countries and assisted start-ups in the insurance sector.
Alexandros has acted as the Actuarial Function Holder for insurance companies in Cyprus and abroad and has been instrumental in the set-up and optimization of their Actuarial and Risk Management Functions.
He specializes in the fields of Solvency II, IFRS 17, Actuarial and Risk Management Function holding or support, reinsurance management, software system implementation, audit support and business management services for both Life and Non-Life Insurance companies.
Alexandros holds the following qualifications:
- Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the UK (FIA)
- Fellow of the Cyprus Association of Actuaries (FCAA)
- Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary (CERA)
- Certificate in Data Science from the IFoA UK and Southampton Data Science Academy UK
- BSc (Hons) in Actuarial Science from the Heriot Watt University (UK)
